Kailash Katkar, birthplace is Satara, in Rahimatpur District. Lives in Pune, Shivajinagar. His father work as helper in Philips company, his mother is a housewife. He has a small brother and a sister. And this makes 5 member family who lives in small room. Kailash is the elder most amongst siblings. Therefore everyone’s expectation is from him. No matter how bad the condition is his parents made every effort and made sure he gets admission to English medium school. Though, they didn’t have any money for books and fees still by struggling they made him complete 10 th. But after 10 thKailash dropped his studies. As the saying goes, “Experience is the best teacher”, he started to learn on basis of his experience of his life. From childhood, Kailash had an interest in repairing damaged devices. By seeing his father working when he was in 6 th he learnt to repair the radio. He even completed one month course of radio repairing. He had confidence in himself that he can achieve something in this field. Without waiting for the result of 10 th he started to search for a job. On one such day, he read an advertisement in the newspaper, one company was in a need of calculator repairer. Kailash had never even seen a calculator, still, he applied for the job. And by luck from 55 people he got selected for the job. Here, his personality or you can say his nature helped him. After joining the company he obviously learnt to repair a calculator, but he even learnt to repair a laser posting machine, FASET machine, and many more machines used in banks.
How many days will a fickle man stick to a job? He
left his job and in a place called Mangalvar peth he started his own shop of
repairing. He kept a handyman to help him with the work. The whole day they with different machines
use to struggle. On one such day, Kailash found a different and a new kind of
machine in a bank. He inquired about that machine, and someone said that, “
This machine is known as a computer. Now comes
the generation of computers.” Kailash went into deep thought. If really the upcoming
generation will be on the computer then we must learn about it. But from where to
learn, was a big question. It was 90’s period and in that period in India, the computer was used on
a small scale. And people started thinking that due to the computer our jobs will
be in danger. So different organisations came together and started to oppose it. At that time computer
was costly enough and was seen in only big organisations. No one use to allow
Kailash to even go near the computer. He got one shot to reach the computer, in
Pune, Ferguson road, where Times of India’s office is situated. Three printers of the
office had stopped working, those who came to repair it reported that all those
machines can’t be repaired, the company should dump it. Who were working in the
office had made their mindset to dumped it. But coincidently Kailash was there.
And made wager that he could repair it, and within an hour and a half he repaired it.
Times of India gave not only printers in his hand but also their computer. They
signed 2 years of the agreement with Kailash for repairing their machines. In
Kailash’s life that was the turning point. By seeing Times of India even
different companies, banks started providing him with work. In Pune, computer hardware repairer Kailash Katkar, this name
got renowned. Though he had to leave his education half the way but he made no
compromise about the education of his siblings. His younger
brother Sanjay was also intelligent. Kailash made him get admission
to a modern college in the field of computer engineering. Sanjay use to do
college in the day time and in the evening use to help his brother in his work.
In that time
span virus was emerging. As an epidemic in humans, the same was in the case of the computer the outbreak was due to some different kinds of program which made
computer ailing. Therefore, for preventing from getting sick Prophylactic medicine are used which is said to be Anti-virus for the computer. If a computer used to get infected
by virus then people use to go to Kailash’s shop. People use to say that you
can only repair it. But this was subject to software how can a hardware
repairer repair it. Somehow Kailash use to make the computer to start. His
younger brother invented a tool for such virus. And customer liked it a lot. At
that time Kailash thought that the Anti-virus business can make us a lot of profit and money. Kailash bought a special computer for his brother. In one of the
settlements of Natawadi, Sanjay began to make Anti-virus. It took one and a half years but an Anti-virus was made by the
Marathi man and they named it “QUICK HEAL”. The year 1995, Sanjay himself designed a logo for his Anti-virus. Kailash
Katkar began to go to every company’s doorstep to sell their product. They use
to explain how can computer data can get ruin and destroyed due to viruses and
why Anti-virus in necessary though most of the companies use to refuse it, still
they were stubborn.
In that time period, in Pune many IT companies were being launched, IT park was getting build. Therefore old and new
companies rather than getting foreign and costly Anti-virus preferred getting
Native and comparatively cheaper Anti-virus. Many companies signed the contract
for many years with Quick Heal. Mobiles
or phones were not even launched, at this time after-sale service had great
importance. Kailash Katkar put all the efforts to satisfy their customer. With
Pune they even build their team in Nashik and Mumbai. After getting into
different-different cities they got profit. Even in the time of competition
Quick Heal got a great success. Transformation from
Manglavar peth office to one lakh square
foot office is a great achievement.
Today Quick Heal is an Indian Brand, established in Pune. Currently, in Quick Heal, there
is more than 13,000 staff. Not only in India but they launched their office
even in foreign countries. Today they have their
branches in more than 90 countries. And this empire was built by a
person who left his studies after 10 th.
